Focus on the Positive

It's the first Wednesday of the month, which means it's the posting day for the Insecure Writer's Support Group! Click here to learn more and sign up!

Once again I feel like I have nothing to write about, and I couldn't think of a response to this month's question, so I'm on my own here. I feel like I'll just end up spewing the same crap I've been talking about for months. And I haven't started writing again, so I can't talk about that.

HOWEVER. I think I'll do something different this month and focus on some little, positive things. So I'm just going to make a list! I love lists!

- While I haven't done any writing, I have been thinking about it. Sort of. I've been trying just to read UL lately and listen to its playlist. While I'm hoping it will lead to some writing eventually, I'm trying not to force it and just let it come naturally.

- I'm back on my diet and I've been going to the gym more often. I haven't been going 5 days a week like I'd like to but that's really because it's very cold out and sometimes I just want to stay inside. But I have been trying some new healthy recipes so that has been fun.

- Despite the diet, I will be having some cupcakes for the musiversary on the 15th, as required. And I will not dwell on the fact that it's been eleven years and I still haven't finished this book. And I will not share my cupcakes with Jordan.

- I've been thinking about this for a while now, but I'd like to start making jewelry. I just feel like I need a creative outlet that isn't writing, and I got inspired by the idea (and bought lots of beads). Now I just have to actually learn how to do it. It would be awesome to eventually start selling jewelry, but I have to at least make sure I can do it first, so I'll start by making some things for myself.

- For hubby's birthday in March, we're spending two nights at Foxwoods casino and going to our favorite restaurant there. We haven't gone away for more than one night in years so I'm really looking forward to it.

- I started today with a little self-pampering. Just a bubble bath and a clay face mask but it felt great! I work too damn hard, I need to relax sometimes.

Well, that's about it. I've been trying not to stress out lately, so I figured I'd focus on the little wins instead of the doom and gloom for once. I hope everyone's staying positive in this crazy world!

  2. I think it's great that you're making a list and not stressing about whether you are writing or not. That could help jumpstart the writing at some point. Don't worry, we all have those times when we don't write. My last stint lasted for years after my husband died.

I hope you have a wonderful time celebrating your husband's birthday.

  4. Sometimes we need another creative outlet. That might spark the writing.
    Jordan doesn't need any cupcakes.

  5. You sound like you're on the right track, Sarah. Attitude is everything. And as far as I can discern, stressing never does anything but cause grey hair. Enjoy your cupcakes.

  6. Focusing on the positive does make things sound more cheery! Good job with the diet and exercise. I know I struggle to keep going with my health goals, especially when there's other stuff weighing on me. Hope your musiversary cupcakes turn out delicious!

  7. Better than focusing on the negative. I look forward to a time when I can get back to other creative things.

  9. I know how hard it is to get out of writing slumps, but I think you're going about it the right way. The most important thing is to not beat yourself up about it. Enjoy playing with the beads!

  11. My daughter did some jewelry making and I have many lovely pieces. She really enjoyed. I'm quite jealous of the bath and clay mask. It sounds wonderful. Pamper away.

  12. Stressing about writing is probably the best way to not be able to write. I hope you have a great time on your mini vacation!

  13. I do love writing because it keeps me anchored in a very different world, especially these last two years of pandemic-fueled chaos! Sometimes writing poetry helps regenerate that connection to our writing selves -- that process of being still, listening to our own unique voice, and letting the words spill out on the page, free verse. Not to share, really. Maybe a way of mental/emotional pampering that affirms those steps you're taking. Cherish each day! The words will come when they (and you) are ready, yes?

  14. No cupcakes for Jordan? Have you told him that yet? :)

I'm glad you'll be having cupcakes, and doing some self-pampering! That's awesome. And enjoy your two nights away. I'm pretty sure the last time my significant other & I went away for two nights, it was because we had to evacuate for a hurricane and we stayed in a tiny hotel room with my mother-in-law and all our pets.

  15. The more you think about a story, the better it festers in the mind and the easier it is to eventually write. I think it becomes more vivid when it simmers a bit.

Self-pampering is an awesome idea. A bubble bath with a mask is great, add in a book to read and that beats a day at a spa.
